Dear Illinois Student Council Advisers,

I hope you all had an amazing summer and are back into the swing of things for the 2018-2019 school year. Linda Pickett and her student leaders from Columbia High School have been working hard to plan the 2019 IASC State Student Council Convention scheduled to be held at The Westin Hotel in Lombard, Illinois on May 2-4, 2019. Many details have already been confirmed.

We are excited to announce the speakers this year are new to the IASC. First, we are honored to have Mr. Monte Selby. We have been trying to get Monte to Illinois for years and finally his schedule is open! Monte is an Emmy Award winning singer/song writer and teacher who's message ties in great with the theme of this year's conference, One Small Step. He rocked the NASC Convention this summer in Minnesota and the Illinois delegation was thrilled to learn he was coming to state convention. He is even going to produce and perform a brand new song written by members of the IASC at convention. To learn more about Monte click on this link: https://www.monteselby.com

Our second speaker is Mr. Joe Beckman. Joe is an impressive speaker from Minneapolis. His message of reclaiming human connections is incredibly powerful and he offers a dynamic presentation for both students and teachers. He has his own YouTube series and you can find out more about Joe at https://joebeckman.com/. Joe has also agreed to visit schools across Illinois for a significantly reduced price the week before and after state convention. More details to come on that one!

Often times people are concerned with the food that will be served at convention. I have worked out a deal with the Westin to serve not only kid friendly food for the banquet but it will also be a buffet for the first time! Actually, both the adviser lunch and the banquet will be a buffet this year. No more paying for food that the kids will not eat! And we may have a world renowned guest at the banquet this year that you and your kids will not want to miss! And the prices are nearly identical to two years ago for both food and hotel rooms (which you can start booking in January).

We have many other events planned for the 2018-2019 school year. To be a part of it all please make sure you send in your registration form with your dues payment as soon as possible! You can download the form on our website here: https://illinoisstuco.org/Content/Documents/MembershipInvoice2018.pdf.

Have a great start to your school year and I hope to see you soon at one of the many IASC events! For more details please visit our website at https://illinoisstuco.org.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kyle Gordon
IASC Associate Director
